Royal Blue – a colour of elegance, depth, and regal history. But how does this majestic shade connect Piwko Furniture with the era of King George III? The story behind Royal Blue dates back to a competition in the early 19th century, held during King George III’s reign, where a mill in Somerset won the challenge of creating a deep, rich blue fabric fit for royalty. Queen Charlotte, his consort, wore a gown of this colour, solidifying its association with prestige and luxury.
Another fascinating fact—blue was historically a colour of power and prestige, often reserved for nobility. Synthetic dyes had not yet been invented, so achieving deep, rich blues required expensive and labor-intensive processes using natural sources like indigo. This exclusivity made blue a symbol of wealth, much like how bespoke, high-quality furniture is a mark of luxury today.
By incorporating Royal Blue into modern interiors, you’re not just following a trend—you’re embracing a colour with a rich royal heritage! 👑💙
Fast forward to today, and this noble shade is making its mark in interior design. We at Piwko Furniture had the pleasure of bringing Royal Blue to life in a this exciting project that exemplifies both elegance and excellence. Designed by Alina Piwko Design, this custom-fitted furniture set was carefully planned, from the initial 3D visualization to the precise floor plan layout, ensuring the best use of space while maintaining an air of sophistication.
The Quest for the Perfect Royal Blue
This project wasn’t without its challenges. The exact shade of Royal Blue our clients envisioned was not readily available in the UK. We embarked on an extensive search, contacting leading manufacturers, checking their stock, and confirming if they had the right quantity to complete the order. After tireless effort, we struck gold—or rather, a limited-edition, exclusive blue! We were fortunate to secure the last of a manufacturer’s stock—a made-to-order colour that is only occasionally produced. What wouldn’t we do for our clients? 😍
A Royal Design Fit for Modern Luxury
The final result speaks volumes. Our clients desired a seamless blend between their existing bespoke bed with a built-in TV and the rest of their furniture. The result? A harmonious, luxurious space featuring spacious corner wardrobes and a 10-drawer island, adding both functionality and grandeur. Gold handles were the finishing touch, elevating the opulence of the arrangement.
Why Choose Royal Blue?
Aside from its aristocratic history, Royal Blue has a profound effect on well-being. It’s a shade that symbolizes confidence, tranquillity, and depth—perfect for a restful yet stylish bedroom. Studies show that deep blues evoke feelings of security and calmness, making them a top choice for interior spaces where relaxation meets refined taste.

Royal Blue emerged from a competition held by clothiers in Somerset, reportedly winning the approval of Queen Charlotte, King George III’s wife.
